(Arabic: tarāwīḥ.) A long prayer that Muslims perform during the month of Ramadan. It is a ‘Sunnah’ or non-obligatory prayer performed after the last obligatory prayer of the night, ‘Isha’. Muslims perform 20 units of Tarawih each night of Ramadan. The imam recites the entire Quran, part by part, throughout the prayers of Taraweeh, ensuring that he finishes the whole Quran by the end of the last Taraweeh of the month of Ramadan.
